Chaverim of the Five Towns and Far Rockaway is a volunteer-based organization dedicated to providing non-emergency assistance to community members facing everyday challenges. Operating 24 hours a day from Sunday through Friday, Chaverim responds to a wide array of situations, including car lockouts, flat tires, dead batteries, and vehicles that have run out of gas. Their services extend beyond automotive issues to include home lockouts and other unique scenarios, such as extracting vehicles stuck in sand. All services are offered free of charge, embodying the spirit of communal support and chesed. 

The organization comprises approximately 75 volunteers and 30 dispatchers who coordinate responses to incoming calls. When a request is received, dispatchers promptly alert the nearest available volunteer to assist. In urgent situations, such as a child locked in a car, multiple volunteers may respond immediately to ensure swift resolution. Chaverim's commitment to timely and compassionate service has earned recognition from both the New York and Nassau County Police Departments. ​

Chaverim also places emphasis on preventive measures and education. They conduct defensive driving classes and car seat safety inspections throughout the year, aiming to enhance community safety and awareness. These initiatives reflect Chaverim's proactive approach to service, focusing not only on immediate assistance but also on long-term well-being. 

Serving areas including the Five Towns, Far Rockaway, Great Neck, West Hempstead, Belle Harbor, and the vicinity of JFK Airport, Chaverim remains a steadfast resource for those in need. Their unwavering dedication to volunteerism and community support underscores the values of responsibility and mutual aid that are central to their mission. ​
