Tomchei LA (Tomchei Shabbos of Los Angeles) is a nonprofit organization that assists Jewish families in the Greater Los Angeles area who are facing financial and practical hardship. It provides a range of family services with an emphasis on discretion and preserving dignity, operating as a division of Touch of Kindness.

A central part of Tomchei LA’s work is food support. Through its Weekly Food Package Program, the organization quietly provides kosher food, groceries, and store-credit coupons to thousands of individuals each week, with additional assistance for Yom Tov, including expanded support through a store-credit program and an “Online Shabbos Store” that allows for convenient ordering of essentials and deliveries. A separate Monthly Grocery Voucher Program distributes substantial grocery vouchers to households throughout the year, with additional funding injected around Yom Tov so that families can meet their basic food needs during the chagim.

Beyond food, Tomchei LA offers multiple forms of material and financial assistance. Its Financial Assistance Program provides direct subsidies toward rent, utilities, and mortgage relief for hundreds of households facing crises such as job loss or illness, and the Lev Leora Interest-Free Loan Fund supplies longer-term, interest-free loans to help families stabilize during financial setbacks. The Second Chance Furniture program arranges for donated furniture and appliances to be delivered at subsidized cost to families who lack basic home furnishings, while a Diaper Distribution program provides tens of thousands of diapers annually through multiple distribution points.

Tomchei LA also addresses broader quality-of-life and stability needs. Its Mental Health Initiative helps community members access subsidized counseling, funding thousands of therapy sessions each year. JobLinkLA offers job placement help, resume support, networking, interview preparation, and an online job board to assist those seeking employment or career transitions. Clothing needs are addressed through the “One of a Kind” (OOAK) clothing program, where individuals can obtain presentable clothing at nominal cost in a dignified, store-like setting with private dressing rooms. In addition, the Dr. Julian Mirman Camp Fund helps children from struggling families attend summer camps, easing financial pressure on parents while providing their children with positive experiences and growth opportunities.
