Special Needs Camp
Parksville, NY, USA
Camp HASC, a division of the Hebrew Academy for Special Children, has been a cornerstone of the Jewish community for over fifty years, offering a premier summer program for children and adults with special needs. Situated in the Catskill Mountains of Parksville, NY, the camp provides a seven-week sleepaway experience that combines comprehensive care with a vibrant camp atmosphere. Each summer, over 350 campers benefit from individualized attention, supported by a dedicated team of over 400 staff members, including counselors, therapists, and medical professionals. The program seamlessly integrates academic instruction, therapeutic services, and recreational activities, fostering personal growth and development in a nurturing environment.
The camp's facilities are fully adaptive, featuring climate-controlled bunks, indoor and outdoor playgrounds, heated pools, and a Beis Medrash. Campers receive daily therapies, including occupational, physical, speech, and music therapy, tailored to their Individualized Educational Programs. The medical department, staffed by doctors, nurses, and emergency professionals, ensures 24-hour care, addressing all health-related needs. Recreational activities are designed to be inclusive, offering sports, swimming, field trips, and Torah learning, all adapted to accommodate varying abilities.
Beyond the summer, Camp HASC extends its support through year-round programs. Camp HASC Cares provides emergency respite care and support to families of children with special needs, utilizing a network of over 300 dedicated staff and alumni volunteers. The Simchaton program offers a Simchas Torah experience for campers and staff, creating an inclusive and joyous celebration. Additionally, the Chavivim Day Camp integrates special needs children into the camp's recreational and educational programs during the summer months.
Camp HASC's impact is also celebrated through its annual "A Time for Music" concert, a significant fundraising event featuring prominent Jewish musical artists. Held in major venues like Lincoln Center and Madison Square Garden, the concert supports the camp's mission and showcases its achievements to the broader community.
