Widow and Orphan Support
Brooklyn, NY, USA
Areivim USA, headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, is a communal initiative designed to provide financial support to families within the Torah-observant community who have lost a parent. The organization operates on a membership model where each member commits to contributing a modest amount whenever another member passes away, leaving behind unmarried children. These collective contributions are used to establish funds of up to $150,000 per orphan, ensuring that the family's financial needs are met with dignity and without public fundraising campaigns. In cases where a family is left with three or more unmarried orphans, an additional fund of up to $150,000 is raised for the surviving parent to assist with the challenges of single-handedly raising a large family.
The structure of Areivim USA is designed to minimize the financial burden on its members. Each member's contribution per incident is relatively small, and there is a cap of $42 per month to prevent undue strain. This approach allows for the accumulation of significant support for bereaved families while maintaining affordability for participants. The funds are managed by a board that includes Rabbonim, financial advisors, and family representatives, ensuring that distributions are handled responsibly and in accordance with halachic guidelines.
Areivim USA has garnered widespread support from leading Rabbonim and community leaders, who recognize the importance of providing for orphans and widows in a manner that upholds their dignity. The organization's model eliminates the need for public appeals and emergency fundraising efforts, which can often be distressing for grieving families. By joining Areivim USA, members not only protect their own families but also participate in a communal safety net that reflects the values of mutual responsibility and compassion.
