Abuse Prevention and Trauma Support
New York, NY, USA
ASAP (Abuse Support Awareness Prevention) is a nonprofit organization based in New York, dedicated to addressing the critical issue of molestation and abuse within the Jewish community. Its mission is to assist communities in building healthy, responsible, and abuse-free spaces by providing treatment and prevention resources to victims, therapists, and community organizations.
ASAP's therapy program guides victims of child sexual abuse to professional trauma treatment, helping them heal and build healthy lives. The organization collaborates with various community organizations to help victims determine and access the most suitable treatment based on their needs. Additionally, ASAP provides therapy subsidies for victims of abuse who are living in poverty and for whom no other sources of funding are available.
To increase the number of qualified trauma therapists, ASAP offers professional training programs. These programs support seasoned therapists in developing expertise in treating victims of sexual abuse through training and certification in evidence-based treatment methods such as EMDR, TF-CBT, and DBT. This initiative aims to enhance the availability of culturally sensitive and religiously knowledgeable counseling services within the community.
ASAP also focuses on prevention through its summer camp safety program. This initiative provides summer camps with training and tools to minimize incidents of abuse and support those who have been abused in the past. The program includes staff screening guidelines, abuse-prevention protocols, intervention protocols for camp directors, and an innovative animated online counselor-training program.
